In order to grasp the personal influence of the rails on Carroll County, I am conducting a field study in collaboration with Melissa Bishop, Flora Librarian and Flora Depot Restoration Project committee member.

I am requesting those viewing this page to e-mail the Museum at carrollcountycchs@gmail.com with the following information:

1) Contact Name
2) Address
3) Phone Number
4) E-Mail, if applicable
5) Date of submission
6) Date of the event or story pertinent to the rails
7) People involved
8) Location, i.e. town or area; and the rail system involved.

I am interested in any and all rail stories pertinent to the Monon, Pennsylvania, Wabash, and Interurban.

Submissions can also be snail-mailed to the Museum at:

Carroll County Historical Society Museum
PO Box 277
Delphi, Indiana 46923

Any questions could be fielded by calling the Museum at 1-765-564-3152 during the hours of  Th, and Fri–9-4.. This could also apply to those who were trapped on the High Bridge during a train’s appearance there.
Thanks.

Mark A. Smith, County Historian

Paint the Town Red’ for heart health Thursday in Flora

Carroll County Comet staff report

Flora’s merchants will roll out the red carpet for the third annual “Paint the Town Red” on Thurs., Feb. 26 from 5-8 p.m. The event is designed to bring awareness to heart health month and show appreciation for the community. Women circulate through Flora learning about heart health while having fun.

The purpose of the Flora Main Street event is to raise awareness for heart health. Heart disease is the number one cause of death for women, according to the American Heart Association. Flora Family Medicine and Carroll County Health Clinic will be offering free health screenings, along with health information.

Luminaries are available for $10 with proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association. They may be purchased as most downtown businesses. The luminaries will line the fronts of participating merchants and can be inscribed with as many names as desired. Afterwards the luminaries may be kept as a keepsake.

Offered at no cost are limousine rides, a style show, photo booth, ring cleaning, and most importantly, health screenings.

Some sponsors will be offering free gifts while supplies last. Find heart health tips in each store and the first person with all the correct answers wins a $50 Shop Flora First gift certificate.

Participating merchants are Sisson’s Jewelry, Eikenberry Fine Furniture, Fringe Hair & Nail Salon, Mann Chevrolet, Ayres Hardware, Norris Insurance, Yoder’s Stitching Line, The Butterfly, Jeffrey’s Restaurant, The Grapevine Boutique, The Flower Shoppe, and Genda Funeral Home.

To help promote Heart Health, ladies are asked to wear their favorite red accessory to the event.
